Lexie Hull on the surface is a role player that’s there to help facilitate Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. She does not score a lot which is evident from last year’s stats where she wasn’t even close to averaging double digit points. However, there is a key difference from then and now. The Indiana Fever’s superstar is out. Clark will be missing her fifth game of the season due to a left quad injury. This has allowed Hull to have more minutes and more opportunities to score because she is not a high volume shooter. Why would you shoot the ball when you can pass to arguably the best player in the league? She is averaging 10.5 points this season and has already had three games where she scored over ten points. Two of those games were with Clark out. She is a solid player and has the ability to put up points, especially now that she’s moved up to being a starter.
Now let’s look at the opposing side. The Fever will be facing the Atlanta Dream tonight. A team that is over 500 and on a two game winning streak. They are second in scoring behind the undefeated New York Liberty yet have a 102.2 defensive rating which is nine out of thirteen. There lies the problem, defense. The Dream are more than capable at scoring but rank ninth in opponent field goal percentage at 44.4% and eighth in opponent three-point percentage at 33.3%. If Hull can get enough shots up, she should be able to score at least a dozen. At plus money this is a play I’ll be wagering.
